There’s a first time for everything …
This is my first entry on The Postcard and my first blog post EVER. For the unlikely few that are reading this and don’t know me personally, I’ll start things off with a little background info on myself and some context for why I’ve decided to start a travel blog.
My name is Alison. I’m from Tennessee originally but have been living in NYC for the last 8 years (until 2 weeks ago… more on that later). My parents still live in Tennessee and I have a sister, brother-in-law, and niece that live near Boston. I’m an Architect by profession, which means nearly all of my friends are also architects. We’re an incestuous bunch, but somehow despite the odds, I managed to marry outside my profession. My husband’s name is Dan and he works in tech as a Product Manager. We met 6 years ago and have been living together in Brooklyn with our fur baby Noah. We love to travel and even tied the knot last August in Iceland.
Dan and I decided a few months ago that we were ready to leave the city and began thinking about what we envision for ourselves next. After considering a few cities in the US (Denver, Seattle, Austin to name a few), we decided to change our focus, somewhat unexpectedly, and started pursuing opportunities abroad. So we quit our jobs, sold our furniture, and booked a one way ticket to Europe. We’re giving ourselves a couple of months to scope out some cities while also putting out feelers to test the job market. We are making a point to treat this trip as more of a vacation than a stress-inducing business trip, so if nothing pans out by June, in the very least we will count these couple of months as a hiatus from adult life and a much needed period of decompression post-NYC.
So I’ve decided to start this blog to document our trip and also post some information that may be helpful to other people thinking about taking the dive themselves. I’m also planning to post other travel-related content about places I’ve visited. Dan and I have tried to go on one big trip a year, so I have lots of recommendations, itineraries, and tips to share for likeminded cost-conscious travelers. Hope you all enjoy!

April 17, 2018 at 3:59 pmHey Alison – just stumbled across your blog! That’s fantastic that you and Dan are traveling (and potentially moving) abroad! I’m actually living in Glasgow right now. Not sure if your contemplating Scotland at all, but if so shoot me an email.

April 18, 2018 at 2:13 pmHey Trish! Nice to hear from you 🙂
Didn’t know you were living in Scotland these days. Amazing! We’re currently contemplating Amsterdam as a home base but are still exploring other options as well. I’ll be sure to let you know if we venture your way. I’ve never been to Scotland so it’s near the top of my list. Hope all is well!
