The first weekend in June was the first time it truly felt like summer was on its way. We had two glorious, sun-filled days with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
This was very convenient timing, as the outdoor Food Truck Festival (or Rollende Keukens, as it’s called in Dutch) was happening that weekend. So like everyone else in Amsterdam, we headed to Westerpark to partake in the annual event.
This was our first time attending, so we didn’t realize the event doesn’t get started until 1:00pm. But it was actually nice getting there a little early. We got to leisurely explore the grounds, perusing the menus and checking out the creatively-designed and elaborately-decorated trucks before the crowds took over. We also benefited by being the first in line as soon as the trucks were officially open for business.
How to Visit
The Food Truck Festival, or Rollende Keukens as it’s called in Dutch, takes place every spring, typically at the end of May/early June. It’s held at Westerpark, specifically at the Westergasfabriek Amsterdam at Klonneplein 1.
This year the event ran from Wednesday, May 29, to Sunday, June 2, and the food trucks were open every day from 1:00pm. Admission is free! Be sure to print a blanket so you can grab a grassy spot in the shade.
